The 2017/2018 Annual Awards Night

 The Annual Cardiff Met RFC Awards Evening was held at Cardiff Athletic Club on the evening of Friday 11th May 2018.

The event not only celebrated this yeas acievementts on the field but centered around the contribution to the Club made by the retired Director of Rugby , Chris Davey. Chris stood down as DoR in August last year after 15 years heading up the Rugby at Cardiff Met.

His achievements include winning the WRU East District Title, the BUCS (BUSA) Championship Cup, European Students 7’s Cup, together with Several appearances at the Twickenham Finals.

His contribution reached throughout the tiers of Rugby Union at Cardiff Met with the lesser teams winning both local  Cardiff & District Mallett Cup finals and East District Finals on several occasions. The Freshers and Youth Teams having succeeded in their respective leagues with the Freshers winning the Students League consistently.

Chris has installed in the club systems and policies that have proved the club to be one of the most successful, not only within university competition, but also in senior Rugby providing the professional clubs throughout the world with well rounded and experienced players. His contribution has truly been immense and was well acknowledged by all attending. We wish him well for the future.

The event Continued with the club blazer presentations, made even more special as they were presented by 13 of the 15 Captins under Chris’s reign.

Also present at the event were 15 of the team that won the BUSA title in 2003. A fitting tribute to a great leader.

The main award Club Player of the Year, was presented by Strength and Conditioning coach Mr Dai Watts. It was an excellent choice as the recipient, Harvey Scott also won the Players Player of the Year.
