MET SUCCEED IN UNLOCKING A SUCCESSFUL RESULT WITH KEYS

Given the poor weather conditions we have experienced lately the teams arrived to find an excellent playing surface at Cyncoed. Cardiff Met started the game playing into a stiff breeze and were able to regain possession from the kick off and build a good attack. Cross Keys were penalised for offside and the students opted to kick to the corner for a lineout. Cardiff Met built a strong driving maul from the lineout which resulted in Captain Morgan Nelson crossing for the games opening try, successfully converted by outside half Evan Lloyd.  The game continued with numerous penalties being awarded against both teams which disrupted the flow of the game. One of these penalties was converted by Cross Keys outside half Louie O'Brien to make the score 7-3.

Cardiff Met were the next team on the scoreboard when, following a turnover deep inside their own half, second row Barny Langton-Cryer saw the opportunity to put the students on the attack which resulted in a try for wing Max Cunnington. The game continued with lots of errors from both teams until Cardiff Met gained a position inside the Cross Keys 22. Here, the students were able to develop a good sequence of play which resulted in a try for centre Will Morris, converted by Evan Lloyd making the score 19-3 in favour of the students. Soon after Cross Keys flanker Callum Hague was yellow carded for a high tackle and outside half Evan Lloyd produced an excellent kick for a lineout five metres from the Cross Keys try line. Once again the students looked to build a driving maul from the lineout and prop Oli Andrews was able to break away and score their bonus point try, again converted by Evan Lloyd.

Cardiff Met continued to pressurise the Cross Keys defence and thought they had scored a fifth try only to be called back for a forward pass. As the game moved towards half time, Cross Keys developed an attack inside the Cardiff Met 22 and created a try for wing Alex Upton followed by an excellent touchline conversion from Louie O'Brien.  Half-time score 26-10

The students had the worst possible start to the second half when they turned over possession on their own try line to allow Cross Keays second row Harvey Reader to score bringing the score to 26-15.  The students dominated the next period, continually pressurising the Keys defence and once again thought they had produced a try only to be called back for a forward pass.  Completely against the run of play, Cross Keys produced an excellent score when scrum-half Zach Bartlett ripped the ball from a tackle and raced 50 metres to score resulting in a 26-20 scoreline.

The students dominated the final stages of the game with Evan Lloyd kicking a penalty and tries scored by replacements Bingo Ivanisivic and Dylan Davies, two of which were converted by Evan Lloyd giving a final scoreline of 44-20.

Cross Keys scrum half Zach Bartlett was carried off with what looked to be a serious leg injury during the second half - our best wishes to him for a speedy recovery and good luck to Cross Keys for the rest of the season.
